About Us
Sue and Sarah
Sue and Sarah Gallpen are the drive behind the new Adelaide based business Grog on Wheels, catering to the full gambit of drink needs for both corporate and private functions.
They started their first business venture Women on Wheels on 23 September 2005 with a 1987 Mazda E2000 van proudly named “Erica” and looking like something out of ‘The Partridge Family’. Sadly Erica came to an untimely demise on 13 October, a short 3 weeks later, but made way for the new Kia van “Wolf”.
As Australia Post parcel sub-contractors they were frequently recognised in the Marion area and were well known for their friendly manner, sense of humour and accountability. People would often stop them in the street and thank them for making sure that their parcels were delivered rain, hail or shine.
Taking on a further sub-contract with a floral company they quickly became known by florists to be well presented, reliable, careful and most importantly on time, particularly when delivering bride’s and church flowers.
In October 2006 they were able to extend their fleet to include a Holden Combo named “Cub” which enabled them to give notice with Australia Post and ultimately start delivering solely for their own customers. Lorraine’s Family Day Care was their first official customer with her first delivery on 20 November 2006.
Women on Wheels
To their continual surprise Sue and Sarah’s courier business, established to support their new drinks delivery business concept, was in constant demand in the floral industry. Their reputation for an extremely high level of service and accountability set them apart from the competition, particularly in relation to weddings, events and company functions. Women on Wheels quickly became the talk of the industry. But this was not their industry!
Although it was difficult to leave so many friends behind within the floral industry, Sue and Sarah’s dream to bring an integrated drinks delivery service to Adelaide inspired them to push on with their original goal of launching Grog on Wheels.
Liquor Licence
On 26 October 2006, trading as Grog on Wheels, Sue and Sarah were granted a Direct Sales Liquor Licence numbered 51401681. They are authorised to sell and supply liquor in accordance with the Liquor Licensing Act 1997 and any other conditions under their licence. That was the easy part, now for the hard part.
The Website
Did you know that everyone knows someone that can make a website? After a long search, Sue and Sarah finally found a website designer up to the challenge of building the bricks and mortar of their idea. Adelaide’s Katalyst Web Design, excited by the concept, set out to build a site that truly reflected Sue and Sarah’s ideas and proved that anything is possible, despite what others might say. Working together Sue, Sarah, and the Team at Katalyst Web Design proudly launched the first stage of Grog on Wheels in December 2009.
It is with much gratitude to Katalyst Web Design that Grog on Wheels is now able to provide members with their refreshing brand of customer service to the liquor industry as originally envisaged, providing the same friendly, reliable and well presented service for which they had become so well known.
A Note from Sue and Sarah
It has been a very long journey from the original concept to the implementation of the dream. One step in front of the other with our goal firmly insight, we have drawn family and friends along with our excitement. Having regaled them with stories of postal and floral deliveries, we continue to amuse them with our adventures and frustrations in our desire to launch an all-in-one drink, hire, nibbles and recycling service to cater for everybody’s requirements. In Sarah’s words “It sounded so simple and easy – we were wrong!”
Although the implementation was far from easy, our philosophy remained quite simple - we wanted to create a site where our members could organise all of their drink requirements online at one time and place. We also wanted to provide a range of alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks, hire equipment, nibbles and gifts to be delivered at a time chosen by the member. To reflect our commitment to preserving the environment, we decided to offer a courtesy recycling service for all glass and plastic drink bottles and cans, including wine and beer bottles whether purchased through our website or other retailers. For us it is about trying to give a bit back and making things a little easier for people at the same time.
We believe we have created a site that caters for all ages, ranging from kids parties with milkshake and slushy machines to the full range of adults’ events including birthdays, bucks and hens nights through to office parties and retirement functions. Whether members want to send a gift, stock their bar or throw a surprise party, the sky is the limit. The service is available equally to individuals and businesses alike. There is no minimum order, and there should be something for everyone. We have tried to create a site that we would like to use!
Whilst there are still many exciting ideas still to be implemented, it is time now for us to take our first tentative steps. We hope you enjoy using our site and services as much as we have enjoyed creating this unique mix for you.
Kind regards
Sue and Sarah Gallpen
